A Butterfly Emerges!

Lorelai noticed a butterfly shortly after it emerged from its chrysalis. It was very exciting! We have tons of beetles also! We finish our insect unit next week! We’ll be comparing the life cycle of the beetle and butterfly as we wrap things up and get ready to learn about Pilgrims and Native Americans.

Thank you to our room moms and our other helpers who made our party a success today! We had a great time!

Next week is a short week as teachers have an in-service on Friday.

Enjoy your weekend!

Crazy hair day and more…

We had so much fun with our crazy hair dos! We tried to focus on the crazy hair and not crazy behavior. We did fairly well with that! :)
Next Friday will be a crazy day too as we have our Halloween parade and party in the afternoon. The parade starts at 1:15. We will parade around the block. You are welcome to come join the fun. Our room parents have either contacted you via email or will be soon to let you know how you can help with the party. Please send in your child’s costume in a bag. We will change into them in the afternoon. Please no weapons or super scary masks. Thanks!
Please send in your conference confirmation letter on Monday if you have not done so yet. Thanks!
Have a wonderful weekend!

The beetles are here!!

We were very busy in first grade this week!  We worked hard on revising our personal narratives.  These stories are going to be so cute!  I was very impressed with how the children were able to add detail to their stories!  Those kindergarten teachers did such a super job teaching writing!!

In Core we are working on being fluent readers.  We sure sound nice reading with a normal talking voice!

I’m sure you have heard that the beetles arrived!  This group has been fantastic scientists as they observe the pupas changing to beetles.  We’ve seen beetles still in their pupas walking around.  That was a first for me!

Next Wednesday we will be walking to the public library.  Please make sure your child is wearing a jacket and comfortable shoes.  Thanks!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Larva here, larva there, larva everywhere!

Well, the caterpillars arrived this week.  Boy are they ever hungry!  I can’t believe how quickly they are growing!  The mealworms have slowed down a bit-many have become pupas.  We should have beetles soon!

The children have done a very nice job recording their scientific investigations in their journals.  Mrs. Ake showed us a picture of Jane Goodall today and talked about how we are scientists just like she is!

The joy of teaching first grade is the leaps and bounds in growth we get to see!  I am thrilled with the work this class is producing!  You should be very proud of your children!  Thank you for all you do to help them be successful!  Enjoy the long weekend!
